Iowa SF 564 Dangerous Wild Animals
SF 564 has been signed into law.
SF 564 has passed both houses of the Iowa legislature and it is now up to the governor to sign or veto the bill.
Please write or call the governors office and ask that he veto this bill. The Dangerous wild animal definition 5a(3) is as follows:
A member of the family felidae of the order carnivora, including but not limited to lions, tigers, cougars, leopards, cheetahs, ocelots, and servals. However, a dangerous wild animal does not include a domestic cat.
5b states as follows (Italics added):
"Dangerous
wild animal" includes an animal which is the offspring of an animal provided in
paragraph "a", and another animal provided in that paragraph or any other
animal. It also includes animals which are the offspring of each
subsequent generation. However, a dangerous wild animal does not
include the offspring of a domestic dog and a wolf, or the offspring from each
subsequent generation in which at least one parent is a domestic dog.
Cats should have a similar exemption for wild and domestic crosses.
Also in the Wild Animal Registration Fee Schedule, the family canidae has no fees at all even though every other defined dangerous wild animal does have a fee associated with it.
